The First Lesson (Seated) 2 Kings 5:1-14
A Reading from 2 Kings:
Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man and in high favor with his
master, because by him the LORD had given victory to Aram. The man, though a mighty warrior,
suffered from leprosy. Now the Arameans on one of their raids had taken a young girl captive from
5
the land of Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife. She said to her mistress, “If only my lord were
with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.” So Naaman went in and
told his lord just what the girl from the land of Israel had said. And the king of Aram said, “Go
then, and I will send along a letter to the king of Israel.”
He went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten sets of
garments. He brought the letter to the king of Israel, which read, “When this letter reaches you,
know that I have sent to you my servant Naaman, that you may cure him of his leprosy.” When the
king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to give death or life, that this
man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Just look and see how he is trying to pick a
quarrel with me.”
But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a
message to the king, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come to me, that he may learn that
there is a prophet in Israel.” So Naaman came with his horses and chariots, and halted at the
entrance of Elisha’s house. Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go, wash in the Jordan seven
times, and your flesh shall be restored and you shall be clean.” But Naaman became angry and
went away, saying, “I thought that for me he would surely come out, and stand and call on the
name of the LORD his God, and would wave his hand over the spot, and cure the leprosy! Are not
Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash
in them, and be clean?” He turned and went away in a rage. But his servants approached and said
to him, “Father, if the prophet had commanded you to do something difficult, would you not have
done it? How much more, when all he said to you was, `Wash, and be clean’?” So he went down
and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; his
flesh was restored like the flesh of a young boy, and he was clean.” [Hear what the Spirit is saying
to God’s people.]
People Thanks be to God.
At the 8:30 am service
Psalm 30 Exaltabo te, Domine
1 I will exalt you, O Lord,
because you have lifted me up *
and have not let my enemies triumph over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried out to you, *
and you restored me to health.
3 You brought me up, O Lord, from the dead; *
you restored my life as I was going down to the grave.
4 Sing to the Lord, you servants of his; *
give thanks for the remembrance of his holiness.
5 For his wrath endures but the twinkling of an eye, *
6
his favor for a lifetime.
6 Weeping may spend the night, *
but joy comes in the morning.
7 While I felt secure, I said,
“I shall never be disturbed. *
You, Lord, with your favor, made me as strong as the mountains.”
8 Then you hid your face, *
and I was filled with fear.
9 I cried to you, O Lord; *
I pleaded with the Lord, saying,
10 “What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the Pit? *
will the dust praise you or declare your faithfulness?
11 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me; *
O Lord, be my helper.”
12 You have turned my wailing into dancing; *
you have put off my sack-cloth and clothed me with joy.
13 Therefore my heart sings to you without ceasing; *
O Lord my God, I will give you thanks for ever.

The Song of Praise, 1982 Hymnal- #544 (Standing) Jesus shall reign where’er the sun
The Second Lesson (Seated) Galatians 6:(1-6)7-16
A Reading from Galatians:
[My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should
restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted. Bear one
another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. For if those who are nothing
think they are something, they deceive themselves. All must test their own work; then that work,
rather than their neighbor’s work, will become a cause for pride. For all must carry their own loads.
Those who are taught the word must share in all good things with their teacher.]
Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. If you sow to your own
flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life
from the Spirit. So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time, if
7
we do not give up. So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and
especially for those of the family of faith.
See what large letters I make when I am writing in my own hand! It is those who want to make a
good showing in the flesh that try to compel you to be circumcised– only that they may not be
persecuted for the cross of Christ. Even the circumcised do not themselves obey the law, but they
want you to be circumcised so that they may boast about your flesh. May I never boast of anything
except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the
world. For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is anything; but a new creation is everything!
As for those who will follow this rule– peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of
God. [Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.]
People Thanks be to God.
Sequence Hymn LEVAS II-#474 (All sing, Standing) When I survey the wondrous cross
The Gospel Announcement (Standing) Luke 10:1-11, 16-20
Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to John.
People Glory to you, Christ, our Savior.
The Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place
where he himself intended to go. He said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are
few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way.
See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals;
and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, Peace to this house!' And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the laborer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them,The
kingdom of God has come near to you.’ But whenever you enter a town and they do not welcome
you, go out into its streets and say, `Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off
in protest against you. Yet know this: the kingdom of God has come near.’
“Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me, and whoever rejects me
rejects the one who sent me.”
The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, in your name even the demons submit to us!” He
said to them, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning. See, I have given you
authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing will
hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your
names are written in heaven.” [The Gospel of our Savior.]
People Praise to you, Christ, our Savior.

The Sermon The Rev. Valerie J. Mayo
Silent Reflection
The Nicene Creed (Spoken by All, standing)
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen
and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and
for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the
Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no
end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the
prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Intercessor
Mighty God: the earth is yours and nations are your people. Take away our pride and bring to mind
your goodness, so that, living together in this land, we may enjoy your gifts and be thankful. Amen.
For clouded mountains, fields, and woodland; for shoreline and running streams; for all that makes our
nation good and lovely;
We thank you, God.
For farms and villages where food is gathered to feed our people;
We thank you, God.
9
For cities where people talk and work together in factories, shops, or schools to shape those things we
need for living;
We thank you, God.
For explorers, planners, diplomats; for prophets who speak out, and for silent faithful people; for all
who love our land and guard our freedom;
We thank you, God.
For vision to see your purpose hidden in our nation’s history, and courage to seek it in human love
exchanged;
We thank you, God.
O God, your justice is like a rock, and your mercy like pure flowing water. Judge and forgive us. If we
have turned from you, return us to your way; for without you, we are lost people. From brassy
patriotism and a blind trust in power;
Deliver us, O God.
From public deceptions that weaken trust; from self-seeking in high political places;
Deliver us, O God.
From divisions among us of class or race; from wealth that will not share, and poverty that feeds on
food of bitterness;
Deliver us, O God.
From neglecting rights; from overlooking the hurt, the imprisoned, and the needy among us;
We pray especially for: Kenneth, Jr., Jeff, Francine, Willette, Mike, Barbara, Malik, Gayle, Ron,
Gloria, Chuck, Lauriette, O. Ray, Lafayette, Margaret, Darryl, Dennis, Jr., The St. Augustine’s

Marjorie, Ama, Dorothy, Lawrence, Derek, Walter, Danita, Lionell, Vincent, Howard, Sydney,
Carol, Robert, Beverly, Harmon, Allen and Damon.
The congregation is invited to add their petitions
Deliver us, O God.
From a lack of concern for other lands and peoples; from narrowness of national purpose; from failure
to welcome the peace you promise on earth;
10
Deliver us, O God.
Eternal God: before you nations rise and fall; they grow strong or wither by your design. Help us to
repent our country’s wrong, and to choose your right in reunion and renewal.
Amen.
Give us a glimpse of the Holy City you are bringing to earth, where death and pain and crying will be
gone away; and nations gather in the light of your presence.
Great God, renew this nation.
Teach us peace, so that we may plow up battlefields and pound weapons into building tools, and learn
to talk across old boundaries as brothers and sisters in your love.
Great God, renew this nation.
Talk sense to us, so that we may wisely end all prejudice, and may put a stop to cruelty, which divides
or wounds the human family.
Great God, renew this nation.
Draw us together as one people who do your will, so that our land may be a light to the nations, leading
the way to your promised kingdom, which is coming among us.
Great God, renew this nation.
Great God, eternal Lord: long years ago you gave our fathers this land as a home for the free. Show us
there is no law or liberty apart from you; and let us serve you modestly, as devoted people; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Planning for Rites and Rituals
The Prayer to End Gun Violence (said by All)
God of Justice, help us, your church, find our voice. Turn us from the worship of power. Give us
the courage to confront our false gods and to protest the needless deaths caused by gun violence.
Help us rise above our dread that nothing can be done and grant us the conviction to advocate
for change. For your dream of a world where children are safe and all of us live together without
fear, Loving God, make us instruments of your peace. Amen.
The Concluding Collect
Celebrant:
11
O God, you have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you and our neighbor; Grant us
the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to you with our whole heart, and united to one
another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The Confession EOW, 56
Celebrant says
Let us confess our sins to God.
Silence may be kept. Minister and People
God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We
have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We
repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive,
restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and
serve only your will. Amen.
The Absolution
Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus Christ,
strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

The Offertory Hymn The Lord is My Light
By Francis Allitsen,
Eucharistic Prayer 2 EOW, 60
Celebrant The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Celebrant Lift up your hearts.
People We lift them to the Lord.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Celebrant
We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant. From before time you
made ready the creation. Your Spirit moved over the deep and brought all things into being: sun, moon,
and stars; carth, winds, and waters; and every living thing.
You made us in your image, and taught us to walk in your ways. But we rebelled against you, and
wandered far away; and yet, as a mother cares for her children, you would not forget us. Time and
again you called us to live in the fullness of your love. And so this day we join with Saints and Angels
in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity, lifting our voices to magnify you as we sing (say):
The Sanctus [spoken at 8:30 am] LEVAS II #255 [sung at 10:30 am]
13
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the one who comes
in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
Holy, holy, holy, holy,
holy Lord God of hosts,
heaven and earth are filled with your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is He who comes
in the name of the Lord, of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
The Celebrant continues
Glory and honor and praise to you, holy and living God. To deliver us from the power of sin and
death and to reveal the riches of your grace, you looked with favor upon Mary, your willing servant,
that she might conceive and bear a son, Jesus the holy child of God. Living among us, Jesus loved
us. He broke bread with outcasts and sinners, healed the sick, and proclaimed good news to the
poor. He yearned to draw all the world to himself yet we were heedless of his call to
walk in love.
Then, the time came for him to complete upon the cross the sacrifice of his life, and to be glorified
by you.
At the following words concerning the bread, the Celebration is to hold it, or lay a hand upon it; and at the words concerning
the cup, to hold or place a hand upon the cup and any other vessel containing the wine to be consecrated.
On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks
to you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.”
As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine. Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to them,
and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out fo you
and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance me.”
The Celebrant continues
Now gathered at your table, O God of all creation, and remembering Christ, crucified and risen,
who was and is and is to come, we offer to vou our gifts of bread and wine. and ourselves, a living
sacrifice.
Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your
Spirit over the whole earth and make us your new creation, the Body of Christ given for the world
you have made. In the fullness of time bring us, with [____ and] all your saints,
from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet prepared from the
foundation of the world.
Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor
glory, and praise, for ever and ever. AMEN.
The Lord’s Prayer (spoken at 8:30 a.m., sung at 10:30 a.m.) L-264
14
The Celebrant says
As our Savior Christ has taught us we are bold to say
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
The Breaking of the Bread EOW, p.69
Celebrant We break this bread to share in the Body of Christ.
People We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.
Fraction Verse (All seated) Lamb of God
Celebrant The gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you
and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.
A Prayer for Spiritual Communion (10:30 am spoken by All)
In union, O Lord, with your faithful people at every altar of your Church, where the Holy
Eucharist is now being celebrated, I desire to offer to you praise and thanksgiving. I
remember your death, Lord Christ; I proclaim your resurrection; I await your coming in
glory. Since I cannot receive you today in the Sacrament of your Body and Blood, I
beseech you to come spiritually into my heart. Cleanse and strengthen me with your
grace, Lord Jesus, and let me never be separated from you. May I live in you, and you
in me, in this life and in the life to come. Amen.
The Communion of the People of God
The Bread and cup are given to the communicants with these words:
The Body of Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen.
15
The Blood of Christ, the cup of salvation. Amen.
Celebrant All are welcome to the Lord’s table. Won’t you come?
The ministers receive the Sacraments in both kinds, and then immediately deliver it to the people.
Communion Hymn, 1982 Hymnal- #498 (All sing, Seated) Beneath the cross of Jesus
Post Communion Prayer (Kneeling or Standing)
Celebrant Together, let us pray:
All: God of abundance, you have fed us with the bread of life and cup of salvation; you
have united us with Christ and one another; and you have made us one with all your
people in heaven an on earth. Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit; that we
may proclaim your redeeming love to the world and continue for ever in the risen
